Tourist bit 6th May

Max the guide takes us on a tour of the city which although the capital, does not seem to have many people around. The country has a population of 6.5 million with 875 thousand living in the capital.
The gold figure ion top of the tower is of the former president who died in 2006. His doctor then became president and max tells is that he was voted in. Only one party, the Democratic Party. “OF COURSE”

Turmenbashi who was president for lots of years from soviet times had gold figure of himself everywhere and had the buildings clad in white marble. The figure on the top of the tower turns and follows the sun, however the locals say the sun follows him

Now i am sure you all remember the river we had to cross in turkey where Max flipped his bike, well Alex and Ann (one of the two pillion rides) dropped his bike exiting while Ann was on the back. Her Ankle got caught by the bike and she said it really hurts. (Hmm! that sounds familiar). It was decided to wait until we got to Ashgabat and she would have it checked out while we do the sightseeing bit.

As you can see from the picture she is in a cast which must stay on there for 6 weeks. She was in a lot of pain but could move it and although it was fractured. Last year she broke the other ankle and had 6 months of treatment on that. Alex the year before broke his leg on the off road training day.
The plan will be for Ann to ride in the van to Samarkand and will fly home to California to her own doctor. If all heels ok with her own doctor, then she will potentially rejoin us in Lhasa by flying to Chengdu and then catching a train to Lhasa.
For our final night in Ashgabat we went to the local market and went to an outdoor restaurant which was in believe it or not a redundant outdoor pool. A couple of beers some, bread, and the usual Kebabs, then off to bed but not the usual early start due to us riding into the desert.
Wow a lie in, excellent.
Hmm, was that my guts having a little grumble?

4789 miles – Ashgabat, Turmenistan
